Artist-In-Residence

The Program
New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park continues the legacy of inspiring artists, a tradition rooted in the history of national parks long before their formal establishment. Through the Artist-In-Residence program, the park invites artists to create and share new perspectives on its stories by offering two public programs, such as workshops, talks, or demonstrations. These events, which are free and open to the public, are encouraged to take place on AHA! Nights, weekends, or school vacation days, with park staff available to support the artists in developing their ideas. Participants in the program receive a $2,500 stipend, and most supplies are provided by the park.
Call For Artists
The New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park invites artists to apply for its Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program, which offers three-month residencies year-round in the Corson MakerSpace and Visitor Center. Artists are encouraged to use New Bedford as inspiration and engage with the park’s visitors, staff, and volunteers. The residency includes access to a 300-square-foot studio and a variety of equipment, with a strong emphasis on public interaction and inclusion. To learn more, visit the website below.
